One man is a lawyer turned non-fiction writer.

Another is a marketing agency CEO.

The third is a Harvard-trained happiness researcher.

But all three are internationally renowned bestselling authors—and their new books need to be at the top of your list for the New Year.

###

1. When by Daniel Pink

What it’s about: Timing. More specifically: perfect timing.

“Timing, we believe, is an art,” Pink writes. And from there, he goes on to show how it’s the opposite: a science. And once you understand it, you can use it to your advantage. When should you change careers? When should you quit your job? And how about… when should you get married? There’s a scientifically-proven ideal time for all of that, Pink argues, and he lays out his surprising findings in When.

Who should read it: Anyone who wants to make the most of their time—and their life.

Why I love the author: When I was 19 years old and first met Dan Pink, I was blown away by his clarity of thought. When I asked questions, his answers were wise, poignant, and direct—and his book reads the same way.

2. Crushing It by Gary Vaynerchuk

What it’s about: Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube—want practical advice on how to better market on those platforms? It’s all in this book. How about just focusing on the booming audio and podcast space—SoundCloud, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and iTunes? It’s all here too. And not only are there loads of practical marketing advice, this book also discusses the most important element to success: your mindset.

“You’re going to hear the stories of people who were scared, just like you,” Vaynerchuck writes. “Who had obligations, just like you. Who were told they were being foolish, or reckless, or irresponsible, or immature. They did it anyway and reaped the rewards. If there’s anything this book should teach you, it’s that the only thing stopping you from achieving lasting career and life happiness is you.”

Who should read it: Business professionals and entrepreneurs who want to successfully market a product—or themselves.

Why I love the author: Similar to when I met Dan Pink, meeting Gary Vaynercuk also blew me away, but for a much different reason. It was Gary’s overwhelming generosity—of his time, resources, and advice—to a complete stranger, that was so surprising. It’s hard to find someone who gives more relentlessly than Gary. And again, reading Gary’s book works the same way—it’s overwhelmingly generous, overflowing with practical lessons to change your business and change your life.
