Often, many may think it costs less money to rent a one-bedroom home over a two-bedroom home. The reality, however, is a two-bedroom home is often much more affordable depending on your state of residence.

To determine the average rental cost of a two-bedroom apartment in every state, GOBankingRates sourced the average rental cost for December 2022, November 2023 and December 2023 as sourced from ApartmentList.com. From there, GOBankingRates calculated the month-over-month change in price and percent along with the year-over-year change in price and percent. States excluded from the final list include Maine, Vermont and Alaska, which did not have reliable rental data.

Keep reading to find out which states are the cheapest for renting a two-bedroom home.
