CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sep 11, 2015) - "Young people can only be as strong as the society that raises them" The Doorway's Executive Director, Marilyn Dyck, shares about our young people in Calgary who live on our streets. On September 11th generous Calgarians are going to come together to support a local charity, The Doorway, to help them further carry out their purpose of helping young people get off the street in YYC.
The event, labelled Doorway24, is a unique way that Calgarians can come together as a community to support and engage with The Doorway to look at broader applications of the organization's program. Doorway24 is a collaboration between EPIC YYC and The Doorway. 24 social minded volunteers from all walks of life will get together to learn about The Doorway's process and their 70% success rate in helping youth get off the street. The 24 people break out into groups and go through the steps of an ideation process resulting in concrete ideas about how Doorway learning with young people could potentially offer wider application in our community at large. Some ideas to work on include better utilizing programs like The Doorway's online planning process called MyPlan; rethinking how Calgarians understand and support young people on the street, and thinking how technology could help build capacity with young people.

About The Doorway
When a young person 17-24 decides they want to get off the streets they can come to The Doorway. We are a community funded business oriented space where young people choose to participate in a community run integration project, with space to think, community members to learn with and tools to plan their lives with their own ideas. Since 1988 The Doorway has been a bridge between street and mainstream cultures where participants progressively work towards sustainable economic independence (legal income and housing).
About EPIC YYC
