"We're Trying Not To Look Back in That Rearview Mirror"

On September 2, Charlie Bobrinskoy, Ariel Investments vice chairman, and Tom Hainlin, Ascent Private Capital Global investment strategist, appeared in an interview on CNBC, where the two shared their insights into value stocks, municipal bonds and shed light on the current economic structure and its impact on investors. Charlie Bobrinskoy discussed the importance of investing in small and medium-sized value stocks. Bobrinskoy elaborates that it is counterproductive to view growth through what he calls a "rearview mirror." He suggests that rather than focusing on big stocks like Amazon, Apple, and Nvidia, it is important to step out and focus on what is valuable today. He further states that small to medium-sized value stocks are trading at attractive prices, and therefore, provide an opportunity to value investors.

On the other hand, Tom Hainlin shows great interest in municipal bonds. He states that the economic outlook shows positive signs of the job market and inflation rates are restoring to the Fed's target, which, according to Hianlin, is a signal to invest in high-yield municipal bonds. While Hainlin hints at the bond market signaling a "chop market," Bobrinskoy suggests that past trends have shown that stocks have consistently outperformed bonds in terms of returns. Overall, both analysts hint that the economic outlook and its impact on the stocks and bond market are uncertain and cannot be predicted accurately.

Towards the end, Bobrinskoy adds that if the economic outlook pushes the Fed to stabilize interest rates, some value sectors, including housing, auto supply, financials, and energy, would offer great returns in the future.
