Dow Jumps 600 Points After Tariff Announcement
The Dow rallied on Wednesday after the White House confirmed automakers would be exempted from tariffs on Mexico and Canada for a month. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis were given a one-month delay “so they are not at an economic disadvantage" ahead of Trump’s planned reciprocal tariffs, which go into effect April 2. Wall Street likely views the exemption as a sign that the White House may eventually find reasons to walk back or negotiate the tariffs, which sent stocks tumbling on Tuesday.
