Tariffs Paused on Canadian Lumber, Canfor CEO Says

Canfor, one of North America's largest lumber producers, said its shipments from Canadian sawmills into the U.S. have been exempted from Trump's 25% tariffs until April. Trump's decision Thursday to suspend for one month the 25% tariffs he placed on some Mexican and Canadian goods last week, with caveats related to the country's complicated 2020 trade pact, sent companies like Canfor racing to their lawyers and customs brokers to see if their own exports are included in the pause. "All of their indications are that we will and we are not being charged 25% by our customs brokers at this point," CEO Susan Yurkovich told investors late Friday morning.
