Shipping company Hapag-Lloyd said container bookings to the U.S. from China have dropped by around one-third since the start of April, when the White House announced steeper tariffs on Chinese goods. “There is substantial cargo from China being held back and a big increase in bookings from Southeast Asia like Thailand and Cambodia,” said Nils Haupt, a spokesman for the German company.
