The second-largest convenience-store owner in the U.S. wants to buy the largest. Whether or not the deal goes through, there will likely be many convenience-store mergers in the years ahead. Single-store operators dominated in the early 2000s, and the share of those mom-and-pop stores rose through 2017 as oil majors sold off their gas stations, according to data from the National Association of Convenience Stores.
