The big three indexes have waffled up and down for most of the session so far, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were still in striking distance of record closes. The S&P 500 was up 0.1% to 5481.72. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.3% to 17,853.50, compared to its record close from earlier this month of 17,862.23.
