Stocks were falling Friday as ongoing trade tensions between China and the U.S. overshadowed a solid set of earnings from Google parent Alphabet. Investors are still struggling to work out if China and the U.S. will be able to broker a trade deal, after Chinese officials said Friday that Beijing and Washington still aren’t negotiating on tariffs. The market appeared to be zeroing in on those tensions instead of a solid earnings report from Alphabet.
