Owning Ford stock hasn't worked for investors in a really long time. The narrative finally seemed to be changing this year, with Ford shares firmly in the green thanks to the strength of the American consumer and a slowdown in electric-vehicle sales. Ford’s problem in the second quarter was one that has dogged its results on and off for years: warranty provisions, says Heard on the Street columnist Stephen Wilmot. After Ford earmarked additional funds for repairs, adjusted operating income came in at $2.8 billion, down from $3.8 billion a year earlier, and well below expectations of $3.7 billion.
