Fed's Powell says he will not step down if asked by Trump

In a press conference following the Federal Reserve's decision to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, Fed Chair Jerome Powell stated the 2024 election results "will have no effects on our policy decisions" in the near term.

Yahoo Finance senior Fed reporter Jennifer Schonberger details the biggest moments from Powell's post-cut conference, especially the chairman's comments that any attempts for President-Elect Donald Trump to remove him or force him to resign are "not permitted under the law."

Powell also called the growing national deficit a "threat to the economy" and that US debt levels are on an "unsustainable path."
