Blavity founder and CEO shares wisdom for aspiring entrepreneurs
In today's Black History Month spotlight, Yahoo Finance Wealth host Brad Smith features Morgan DeBaun, founder and CEO of Blavity Inc., a company transforming media consumption for Black audiences. DeBaun shares invaluable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs. On securing venture capital, DeBaun notes a significant shift in investor expectations: "Early-stage VCs are looking for founders and entrepreneurs who have profitable businesses," she explains, emphasizing that founders now "must be much further along and really know what you're doing." DeBaun identifies creators as the dominant trend reshaping media: "Creators are now our go-to source for information for content," she tells Yahoo Finance, observing that "old school traditional media is really struggling because they used to be the source of truth... but consumers don't really trust legacy media anymore." She offers advice on leadership and purpose, telling Yahoo Finance: "When you're really trying to grow into a leader, whether you're early in your career or just starting your first company, you really have to think about what is the change that I want to make, what's the problem that I'm trying to solve, and make sure that you're able to bring people along the journey with you." "Because if you really want to change the world, if you really want to build a product at scale for millions of people or billions of people, then it's incredibly important that you're able to bring people with you along the way — you can't do it alone." Watch the complete interview for further insights into DeBaun's perspective on building sustainable wealth through entrepreneurship.
