The race for AI will only get 'faster and cheaper'
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, launched its latest AI model called Grok 3. Musk touts that xAI's chatbot surpasses OpenAI and other competitors in multiple benchmarks. Lead Edge Capital founder Mitchell Green joins Catalysts to discuss the implications of these developments, noting that the AI race will intensify in the coming years. "I think you're going to see over the next 6, 12, 18, 24 months lots of people continue to show that their models are faster and faster. As you saw in DeepSeek, you'll see that things get cheaper and cheaper," Green says. Green emphasizes that while Big Tech companies like Microsoft (MSFT), Google (GOOG, GOOGL), and Amazon (AMZN) will likely dominate due to their massive investments, older companies such as Oracle (ORCL) and IBM (IBM) could emerge as AI winners. However, he cautions that the rapid pace of investment could lead to overbuilding. "People tend to overestimate technological change in the near term, but they always tend to underestimate it in the long term. And, then of course, spending kind of goes the same way" Green concludes. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Catalysts here.
