How much can you get with a Delta SkyMiles credit card welcome offer?
If you’re considering opening a Delta SkyMiles card, the new welcome offers alone could be enough incentive to apply. These increased bonuses last only through October 23, and they’re some of the best we’ve seen from these cards — offering between 80,000 and 110,000 bonus SkyMiles for new cardholders.
No matter which card you choose, you can get hundreds of dollars back in flight value from Delta.
Let’s say you have plans to visit family over the holidays. You and your family (four total passengers) want to fly from New York to Tampa, leaving December 18 and returning December 28. Today, that trip would cost 104,000 SkyMiles, not including taxes and fees.
That’s more than most of the increased welcome bonuses, but you can use your card’s benefits to help out.
If you choose the Delta SkyMiles Platinum or Delta SkyMiles Reserve cards, one included benefit is a 15% discount when you use miles to book award travel on Delta flights. With the discount, the above flight would cost 88,400 SkyMiles (not including taxes and fees) — well within both of these cards’ boosted welcome offers.
You could also consider using your points for a quick solo getaway. Maybe you live in the Los Angeles area and you want to escape to the mountains after the holidays for a long weekend in January. A round-trip flight from Los Angeles to Denver between January 16 and January 20, 2025 would cost just 33,000 SkyMiles, plus taxes and fees.
With any of these increased welcome offers, you’d even have enough SkyMiles to splurge on a First Class seat for this trip. The same flights in First Class would set you back 52,000 SkyMiles (not including taxes and fees) — leaving you plenty of extra miles for a future trip.
Of course, a bank of SkyMiles as big as these welcome bonuses can also help fund international trips. If Japan is one of your bucket list destinations, for example, you can get there with the welcome bonus miles you’ll earn from either the Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve card. Even if you choose the Delta Gold card, you may earn enough miles on regular spending between now and when you book to still fund your trip with SkyMiles.
Currently, you can get a round-trip, nonstop flight between Atlanta and Tokyo for next spring (May 21 through June 9, 2025) for just 90,000 SkyMiles before taxes and fees.
Unlike the other examples, this trip does require you to fly Basic Economy to get this price. But if you plan far enough in advance, you can use a combination of welcome bonus miles and miles you earn through regular spending to fly Main Cabin or another seat type you prefer using SkyMiles.

Should you get a Delta SkyMiles American Express card?
The Delta SkyMiles American Express travel credit cards can offer a lot of potential value for frequent Delta customers, whether you typically fly for business or on personal trips.
You’ll get top rewards when you travel with Delta but can also take advantage of added rewards categories on some cards, including U.S. supermarkets, restaurants worldwide, other travel spending, and more. And if you’re a business traveler, a Delta business card can help you save on common expenses you might take on when you’re on the road: transit, U.S. shipping providers, and more.
Your card benefits can offer a lot of long-term value, too. Some benefits apply to spending beyond Delta bookings and flights, which is good for everyday savings. Rideshare and Resy credits can help you maximize nights out at home or on vacation. But frequent flyers will also enjoy travel-related perks, from complimentary upgrades on Delta flights to enhanced companion passes and a boost toward Medallion status.
Keep in mind, any co-branded Delta card is only a good option if you fly frequently enough to take advantage of rewards and benefits and Delta is your preferred airline.
If you’re not a regular traveler or you prefer to shop around for flight deals over staying loyal to a single airline, you may be better off with a more general (and potentially lower-cost) travel credit card. Similarly, business travelers who don’t live near or often travel to Delta hubs or those who don’t have the freedom to select their own flights when traveling may not get full value from a Delta SkyMiles business card.
As always, make sure you compare your regular spending with the potential value you can get from a Delta Amex card. If you won’t use enough of the benefits to outweigh the annual fee or spend enough with Delta to maximize the miles you’ll earn, you may want to look elsewhere.
