Equity indexes finished higher, but off the mid-day highs.
The S&P 500 gained 5.33 points to close at 1936.92. It traded above 1944 in the morning, but rolled over into the closing bell. It has resistance at 1960 and support at 1900.
The Nasdaq 100 gained 22.36 points to 3910.46. It approached its 20 day moving average and pushed above the 10 day. It has resistance at 3950 and support at 3850.
The Russell 2000 closed at 1141.93, up 10.58 points. Unlike the others it closed above its 10- and 20-day moving averages, doing so for the first time since the all time high on July 3. It has resistance at 1160 and support at 1110.
The VIX fell 1.54 to close at 14.23. The VXST dropped 0.55 to 14.84. That comes with the 10-day historical volatility of the S&P 500 at 14 percent.
The August VIX futures fell 1.2 to 14.8, with September down 0.90 to 15.25. The VXX declined 4.1 percent to $31.85.
