LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Aug 1, 2013) - Experienced motor trade insurance broker Quote Me Today has commented on the new government plans to replace the current vocational qualifications with 'technical level' qualifications. It is hoped the new qualifications will better equip young people with the skills they need to succeed in a competitive labour market.
The new 'tech level' examinations are set to replace 80% of the current vocational qualifications and provide hands-on practical training at the same level as current A Level examinations. The aim of this is to raise the profile of vocational qualifications and equip students with the knowledge and skills to help them find employment.
'Tech level' exams will be offered in a wide range of practical subjects including IT, engineering and motor mechanics. The first exams will be taken in 2018 and successful students will then be able to progress to employment or an apprenticeship. Some courses will also provide a 'licence to practice' or exemption from professional examinations. More information on these proposed reforms can be found here.
Jason Markham, a partner at Quote Me Today commented:
"To ensure the future quality of the garage sector we should be encouraging youngsters into the industry and encouraging garages of all sizes to take on young school leavers and apprentices where possible. I think the improvement of vocational qualifications should help job seekers, employers and customers by improving standards and is a good move in the right direction."
One of the current routes into motor mechanics is a VRQ (Vocationally Relevant Qualification) diploma; however in 2016 this will be replaced by the 'tech level' qualification.
Solid training gives motor mechanics the skills they need to operate as safely and professionally as possible. But Quote Me Today urges that no matter how well trained you are, accidents can still happen; that is why it is essential for all motor traders to take out a comprehensive motor trade insurance policy, including Employer's Liability Cover, to protect their business.
