Leading Hong Kong Internet Video Service Provider TVB.COM Builds Its New Streaming Node With Edgeware

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Sep 11, 2015) - IBC 2015, Stand 14.B20 -- Edgeware, the leader in distributed video delivery, today announced that TVB.COM, Hong Kong's largest Internet video service provider, has selected Edgeware´s video delivery solution, the VCP Edge, to deliver its online TV and video services.

TVB.COM experienced significant traffic growth as a result of its successful Internet video service "myTV" that it originally launched in 2008. The service offers 24 hours live streaming, free TV channels and catch-up of TVB's popular TV programs, accessible on smartphones, tablets and computers. The myTV app alone has accumulated over 10 million downloads.

With the increased popularity of the myTV service, traffic volumes grew beyond the capacity that third party CDN platforms could cost-effectively support. This led TVB.COM to seek more cost effective solutions to build their own video delivery infrastructure that was easily scalable and capable of guaranteeing video quality. Edgeware's VCP Edge was the only solution that could meet these combined needs.

TVB.COM's initial deployment of the VCP Edge has been very successful. They have been able to further increase the video quality and improve customer's satisfaction. The broadcaster also has the ability to deliver new services at massive scale. Services will be upgraded with more live channels, even higher video quality, and an ever-expanded video repository in the near future.

"Our customers expect nothing less than the highest quality, regardless of the device on which they access the content," says Kenneth Wong, COO at TVB.COM. "With Edgeware's VCP, we can cost-effectively deliver the quality our customers demand with the ability to rapidly scale and add new services as the market evolves."

"As the Internet video service provider for Hong Kong´s leading content producer and broadcaster, TVB.COM understood the need to guarantee the end user experience," said Peter Löfling, Asia Pacific Sales Director at Edgeware. "If an Internet video service disruption occurs, it is rarely the CDN provider who is blamed -- the viewer only experiences the disruption from the content provider. This is why we are seeing the beginning of a trend towards broadcasters building their own CDNs to take full control over their most valuable asset: their content."

To learn more about the deployment, meet Edgeware at IBC, Stand 14.B20. The exhibition is taking place September 11-15 in Amsterdam.
