Yes, I am at the Super Bowl as I write (I even loyally wore a Saints jersey — but it was Archie Manning's, Peyton's dad, who quarterbacked my New Orleans Saints when I was a child). What an experience! There were headaches and obstacles and traffic and delays, but they were all worth it. What a spectacle and everyone is in a good mood. As if seeing the two best teams in America’s favorite sport clash for the title weren’t enough (and fumbles and interceptions having quite an impact as the Broncos lead 13-7 at half), the Star Spangled Banner by Lady Gaga and a halftime show filled with stars (Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars) makes this a true evening to remember. I even held up my yellow card when cued.

There are regulars, those who go to every Super Bowl, and there are fans who come because their team is playing. But no matter what the reason for coming is, everyone is glad they are here. When the jets flew overhead and the national anthem ended, it was as if a rocket had taken off. The colors seem much more vivid. The field is extra green, and the players uniforms are of the brightest tint. Then there’s “the old guy” vs. “the young guy.” The great offense against the great defense. And the show begins. The hits seem harder and the energy is indescribable. Just watching can wipe you out, especially here in person.

I wouldn’t be any other place (although I guess I’ll have to watch the great commercials online later). If you ever have the chance, go to a Super Bowl. Or go to a World Series or NBA Finals game. Seeing the best at their sport compete, with all the pageantry you can imagine, is worth experiencing at least once in a lifetime.
