Why this strategist expects a 15% market correction in early 2025
As investors assess their portfolio strategy heading into 2025, Abound Financial chief investment officer David Laut joins Josh Lipton and Akiko Fujita on Market Domination Overtime to discuss his expectations in the new year. As the S&P 500 trades (^GSPC) near record highs and strategists set their 2025 year-end targets high, Laut compares the current market to “standing up on a mountain top, maybe even looking to the next mountain top,” noting, “I think we're going to find ourselves in the valley, stuck in the trees at some point.” “When we get this type of tailwind in the market, people get a little bit relaxed … and instead of becoming investors, they're just stock buyers. And I think we need to make sure that we have our investment hats on going into 2025 and [make] sure that we're picking our spots as we put money to work,” the strategist says. He expects an around 15% pullback in 2025, with the S&P 500 falling near 5,000. At this point, “there are going to be some better opportunities to buy stocks lower than they are today.” Watch the video above to learn more about Laut’s investment strategy for 2025.
