Stay Classy, Ben & Jerry’s; Newest Flavor Inspired by ‘Anchorman’

Get ready, San Diego, Ron Burgundy wants to sell you some ice cream.

On Tuesday, Ben & Jerry’s announced its newest flavor – “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” – inspired by one of “Anchorman” star Will Ferrell’s catch phrases (among many) from the 2004 movie. The news was announced at a New York press conference on Tuesday, complete with a water-skiing squirrel (yet another “Anchorman” reference) and a group of Ron Burgundy impersonators.

Even the man himself got in on the act.

“Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch is a delicious ice cream and I hope Ben and Jerry consider my other suggestions,” said Ron Burgundy, in a press release. “Malt liquor marshmallow, well liquor bourbon peanut butter, and cheap white wine sherbet.”

The new flavor itself is apparently a butterscotch ice cream with a butterscotch swirl mixed in. Frankly, it sounds pretty good. But it’ll only be around for a limited time at the company’s scoop shops as well as grocery stores, so you’d better act fast. Here’s the pint, for easy identification:

Surprised to learn that southern California’s favorite fictional TV news anchor is slinging Ben & Jerry’s? Don’t be. The second installment in the franchise – “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” – is set for theatrical release in December 2013, and cross promotion is a tried-and-true technique in marketing circles. Ben & Jerry’s has also been down this road before, with such flavors as Stephen Colbert’s “Americone Dream” and “Liz Lemon frozen yogurt,” tied to Tina Fey’s character on “30 Rock.”

But cross promotion isn’t always this delicious. Take a look at some past hits and misses in our slideshow above. Spoiler alert: Nobody wants to eat something called “Schweddy Balls” (especially if they know the backstory!)
